What makes yoga different from other types of exercises is that it is all about a process towards attaining a healthy mind by making the body healthy. However, yoga is not all about postures (asanas). One can also use various objects to attain the exact posture. That moment, at Kathir college of Arts and Science made everyone flabbergast to see the 16 year old from Pollachi performed yogasanas in different poses.
Sushmitha Ramkumar, a class 11 student of ARB International School, Pollachi had started her rope mallakhambh when she was five. She had practiced this sport for the past eight years. She says, “I have been doing yoga from my childhood and my body is very flexible and adapts towards the sport . My practice session was four days a week, one hour each in the morning and evening ”. She is a girl who can perform 40 asanas in different styles.
The spectators were amazed and it was a nail biting moment for them when the 16 year old promptly clambered the rope and started performing yogasanas. The onlookers hailed her along with their prayers while she posed herself in different styles. Padmasana, paschimottanasana, nitharasana were the asanas which she did it on the rope for three hours without break and December 29 is a milestone in her life which created three records – Kalam Book of Record, Bharat World Record and Wonder World Record . She even tells the benefits of such asanas:
· Calms the brain and helps relieve stress and mild depression.
· Stretches the spine, shoulders, hamstrings
· Improves concentration and keeps the mind calm and peaceful for meditative practices.
Rope mallakhambh can’t be performed without self confidence and vehement concentration. “Being for three hours on the rope was really a very agonizing one. But, when I think about the result I never bothered the pain and strain which I underwent”, she says.
She has always been a learner and a student having keen discerning bulk. She wants to go to the next level of the sport. A performance of six hours is her next target .And she strongly rely that this sport will reach every nook and corner of our state despite being infamous.
